Two years since the pandemic began, the celebration for the 2022 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) kicked off in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) on September 20 to 22, 2022 via a hybrid platform (on-site and online). With the theme, "Agham at Teknolohiya, Kabalikat sa Maunlad at Matatag na Kinabukasan", the NSTW in CAR is one of the regional celebrations for the 2022 NSTW.

As part of the celebration, the DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), in partnership with DOST-Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR), conducted a three-day exhibition to showcase its programs, technologies, and services. The Institute featured the Philippine Tropical Fabrics, silk-related technologies, handloom weaving machine designs, advanced handloom weaving products, and its technical service offerings. The exhibit was visited by students from different universities and individuals from the private sector. The TheraLoom version 2 piqued the visitors' interest, and inquiries about its functionality and availability.

The Cordillera Region is home to the country's largest number (21%) of weavers. During the exhibit, the selected weaving communities from CAR were able to sell their handwoven products, from wearables to home decors. Some communities availed the DOST-PTRI's advanced handloom weaving training and applied what they have learned to produce wovens for their markets.

One of the webinars conducted during the 2022 NSTW in CAR was about the Industry 4.0 Technologies for Weaving Industry. DOST-PTRI discussed the concept of Digitization of Weave Patterns and Textiles, highlighting the available applications and software for weave pattern drafting. Also shared among the participants are the mobile- and computer-based software available for the weavers. On the other hand, DOST-PTRI introduced to the participants the steps to navigate and draft a basic weave pattern using an advanced weave designing software.

Apart from the exhibition and webinars, the DOST-CAR, in partnership with Benguet State University (BSU), executed the Cordillera Weave Fashion Show and Talk Show. The fashion show displayed the creations of the communities that benefited from DOST-PTRI's training programs. The weaves were transformed into a modern type of clothing designed and modeled by students from BSU.

DOST-PTRI will be joining more regional exhibitions for the 2022 NSTW. The goal is to increase the awareness of stakeholders in the regions about Philippine textiles and how science and technology can be leveraged to create wealth for Filipinos. The exhibition is DOST-PTRI’s initiative to promote research and development outputs in the textile industry through science, technology, and innovation.
