In a vibrant celebration of local artistry and innovation, the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) and DOST Caraga hosted the SiningTela On-the-Spot Painting Competition on June 8, 2024, at Robinsons Butuan, Butuan City, Agusan del Norte as part of the 2024 Caraga Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW). 

Fifteen (15) finalists competed, using abaca and pineapple blended fabrics developed by DOST-PTRI as their canvas. Each participant was provided with three types of natural dye paints—mahogany, talisay, and yellow ginger (turmeric) which they have given the option to use the Nat𝘋𝘺𝘦𝘴 paints into their artworks. 

The competition underscored the sustainable and innovative application of local resources, bridging traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. Through initiatives like SiningTela, DOST-PTRI and DOST Caraga aim to foster a deeper appreciation for Philippine textiles and bolster support for local artisans. 

Furthermore, in the closing ceremony of 2024 RSTW in Caraga, DOST-PTRI was honored with two plaques of appreciation for organizing the KatHABI Fashion Show and being one of the event's key activity partners.
