In a significant move to promote and preserve the rich weaving traditions of the Cordillera region, the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), together with the Department of Science and Technology - Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST - CAR), officially opened the 3rd Cordillera Weaving Industry Summit as part of the 37th Cordillera Month Celebration at SM City Baguio on July 17, 2024.
DOST-PTRI's participation in the summit was marked by a textile innovation exhibition. Central to the exhibition was the Institute's DigiTELAzation Program, which showcased covert security yarns designed for authenticating and counteracting the proliferation of counterfeit handloom woven goods in the market.
The exhibition also featured an array of naturally-dyed yarns and silk fabrics, the Lakat shoes enhanced with water-repellent finishing technology and anti-microbial properties, highlighting the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with modern textile technologies.
Visitors to the booth were captivated by the LuzViMinda Bamboo-blended dress, which incorporated handwoven fabrics such as Binakul Kusikos from Luzon, Patadyong from Visayas, and Tennun from Mindanao. Moreover, a notable highlight was the display of the first-ever Barong Tagalog made from bamboo fabric, with Pintados-inspired embellishments.
The exhibit is open to the public until today, July 18, 2024. So, don't miss the opportunity to visit us at the SM City Baguio Mall Atrium, Baguio City, Benguet.
