DTI-FTSC Explores Collaborative Opportunities with DOST-PTRI in Misamis Oriental

The Department of Trade and Industry - Foreign Trade Services Corps (DTI-FTSC) recently visited the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) Technology Center Misamis Orienal in Brgy. Imelda, Villanueva as part of their 2025 Strategic Planning Conference. The visit focused on engaging key stakeholders in regions with priority industries, underscoring the government's push for innovation-driven growth.
Led by Assistant Secretary Celynne Layug and Executive Director Emmanuel W. Ang, the delegation included commercial attachés from various countries and FTSC’s trade-industry development specialists. They were given a comprehensive overview of DOST-PTRI’s initiatives, particularly those supporting the development of the Philippine textile industry, with a special emphasis on Philippine silk.
During the tour, the foreign attachés witnessed the processes involved in silk production, from cocoon harvesting to weaving. The experience highlighted the potential of Philippine silk as a globally competitive product. Several attachés expressed significant interest in exploring collaborative opportunities with DOST-PTRI to promote Philippine textiles in international markets.
Discussions during the visit revolved around potential synergies, with both parties identifying areas of mutual interest for future partnerships. These include technology sharing, research collaborations, and enhancing market access for Philippine textiles.
