The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) and the City Government of Taguig have formalized their collaboration through a Memorandum of Agreement for the Sustainable Textile Technology-based Livelihood Program. This initiative is poised to open new opportunities in textiles for the residents of Taguig.
DOST-PTRI will introduce innovative technology involving the conversion of water hyacinth into a textile fiber material, achieved through the utilization of a decorticating machine provided by the Institute. Additionally, the program will introduce handloom weaving technology using DOST-PTRI-designed Modified Handloom machines, also deployed by the Institute. The comprehensive package includes skills training for utilizing the equipment and business development assistance to facilitate the entry of the product into the marketplace. The City Government of Taguig will play a vital role by allocating dedicated space to house these machines and identifying beneficiaries who will actively participate in the Sustainable Textile Technology-based Livelihood Program.
This partnership is a major step forward in providing more job opportunities and revitalizing the textile industry in the city.
