The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), in collaboration with Playbox Arts & Workshops, recently hosted a learning session with a tour for homeschoolers from Laguna. The aim was to familiarize them with the fiber-to-yarn-to-fabric process of sustainable textiles and natural dyes. Their interest in visiting the Institute was sparked by the videos uploaded on DOST-PTRI's Facebook Page, with one of their favorites being the waste-to-wearables fashion showcase.
This tour is an integral part of the Institute's Textile Academy, which serves as a platform for knowledge exchange and seeks to consolidate efforts in education, skills development, and capability building. The Textile Academy aims to nurture the country's human capital and drive innovation in the textile industry through education, research collaborations, and skills training.
Previously, Playbox Arts & Workshops conducted creative sessions promoting eco-friendly art, including crafts utilizing natural materials and plant-based dyes. These workshops kindled the homeschoolers' curiosity, motivating them to learn more about the wonders of textiles and natural dyes.
