DOST-PTRI HOSTS OPERATIONAL PLANNING WORKSHOP FOR RYPIC COTABATO AND NTFIH SULTAN KUDARAT

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) successfully conducted the Operational Planning Workshop in preparation for the launch of the Regional Yarn Production and Innovation Center (RYPIC) and the Natural Textile Fiber Innovation Hub (NTFIH), held in Koronadal City, South Cotabato on May 28, 2024.
Set to be established at the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) and Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) respectively, RYPIC and NTFIH are designed to boost the textile industry in the region. These facilities will focus on enhancing yarn production and advancing natural textile fiber, aiming to boost local manufacturing capabilities in the area.
The DOST-PTRI's efforts in this workshop signify a major step towards revitalizing the textile industry. These initiatives are expected to foster innovation, enhance local skills, provide livelihood, and drive economic growth through textile production technologies.
To support the operation of RYPIC Cotabato and NTFIH Sultan Kudarat, textile human resource in the region will be developed through a series of capability-building activities, including skills training on natural fiber treatment technology, basic textile technology, yarn manufacturing, preventive maintenance, and machine troubleshooting, and Basic and Advanced Occupational Safety and Health. The training sessions are scheduled to run from June 17-24, 2024.
Furthermore, the NTFIH Sultan Kudarat is set to be launched in July this year, while the RYPIC Cotabato will be launched in August.
