Brewing Innovation ☕️
DOST-PTRI has harnessed coffee pulp as an innovative natural dye source for coloring fibers, yarns, and fabrics such as cotton, abaca, piña, and silk. The resulting colors vary depending on the type of fabric, showcasing the unique interaction between natural dyes and different materials.

To support the wider adoption of sustainable dyeing practices, the Institute developed NatDyes paints and kits, and offers specialized Natural Dyeing Training. This program is designed to equip participants with the essential knowledge, techniques, and proficiency needed in natural dyeing which is a key component of eco-friendly innovation in the textile industry.
Natural dyeing also holds strong potential to empower communities, artisans, and local businesses by creating livelihood opportunities rooted in tradition and sustainability. By tapping into locally available raw materials and indigenous dyeing techniques, small enterprises can add value to their products, promote cultural heritage, and access niche markets that favor eco-conscious and ethically made goods.
