DOST to conduct forum on Circular Economy at the National Science and Technology Week

Science, Technology, and Innovation play a crucial role in addressing pressing national problems, and the Department of Science and Technology, no less, is committed to generating and applying new knowledge and technologies all towards collective prosperity. One of the vital global concerns today is the call for Responsible Consumption and Production as part of the country’s commitment to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As a key response, the DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) will conduct the Forum on Waste = Resource to Inclusive Circular Economy on July 19 to 20, 2018 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City, Manila as part of the DOST’s celebration of the 2018 National Science and Technology Week. Learn about what circularity means and what it has to do with sustainability.
The two-day activity aims to provide an avenue for stakeholders from the scientific and academic communities, business and industry sectors, and other concerned government agencies to increase awareness and create responsive actions in circularity in production processes and resource management. The activity also seeks to strengthen networks and linkages among stakeholders as it promotes exchange of ideas, a sharing of best practices, strategies, and initiatives, geared towards an increase in collaborations.
The Forum on Waste = Resource to Inclusive Circular Economy will feature topics ranging from pro-profit business towards sustainability and sustainable design in fashion and textiles, to green product standards and legal frameworks and circular economy strategies presented by experts from the social enterprises, industry, government, academe, business, and civil society organizations. Through the Forum, conscious consumption patterns, cleaner production processes and technologies, reduction and management of wastes in support of reduced ecological footprint, and, ultimately, inclusive economic growth will be tackled.
