The DFDC - Davao Fashion Design Council Foundation, Inc. (DFDCFI), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), and Discovery Samal, recently conducted a mini fashion show, exhibit, Memorandum of Agreement signing, and press conference during the launch of "The Stellar: Fashion Gala" at Discovery Samal, Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte.

The pieces in the fashion show were made from pineapple-blended fabric and designed by members of the DFDCFI. The exhibit, mounted by DOST-PTRI, showcased the fiber-to-yarn-to-fabric transformation and textile products of Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTFs) such as bamboo, pineapple leaf, and silk.

Additionally, DOST-PTRI, DFDCFI, and Discovery Samal forged a creative partnership to promote homegrown sustainable fashion and lifestyle that will highlight PTFs and local weaves. This engagement forms part of DFDCFI’s b.LOOM (Beyond the Loom) Project, which encapsulates the resurgence of artisanal weaving traditions in the age of technology.

This September, DFDCFI will organize a fundraiser event for inclusive traditional and emerging creative communities focused on marginalized creatives and artisans like persons with determination (PWDs), persons deprived of liberty, indigenous artisanal communities, and urban women and children in halfway homes

In the same month and event, DOST-PTRI will feature bamboo and banana fabrics as Davao is envisioned to be a major producer of bamboo and banana fibers for textiles.
