This MOU aims to establish and foster technical cooperation on textile and allied textile research, development and innovation, instruction, and extension and technology transfer between the DOST-PTRI and DLS-CSB. It promotes cooperation, collaboration, and joint undertakings among researchers and research groups of both parties.
The MOU signing was attended by the representatives from DOST-PTRI Dr. Julius L. Leaño Jr., Director IV, Zailla F. Payag, Supervising Science Research Specialist and representatives from DLS-CSB Mr. Benhur A. Ong, Chancellor, Angelo Marco U. Lacson, Vice Chancellor for Academics, AR. Harvey A. Vasquez, SED Dean, and Ms. Diana Jean U. Katigbak, Program Coordinator of Textile Design Program.
Moreover, this partnership establishes the Textile Academy, a Hub for textile knowledge exchange. The academy aims to empower local talents through skills training programs, workshops, research initiatives, and professional development, fostering expertise in textile technology, design, and sustainable practices.
Moreover, DOST-PTRI staff brought the MUPh candidates to the DOST-PTRI Innovation Center for Yarns & Textiles (ICYT). The ICYT houses the yarn-spinning facility for the production of natural textile fiber-based yarns, as well as the weaving facility where various handloom weaving machines are utilized for training and processing services.
Furthermore, this collaboration integrates seamlessly with DLS-CSB's School of Environment and Design, reinforcing the institution's dedication to textile education and design development. Together, DOST-PTRI and DLS-CSB envision cultivating a pool of textile scientists, engineers, and technicians, contributing to the growth of the Philippine textile sector.
