In celebration of the National Heritage Month, the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) hosted a closing ceremony on the second day of the learning visit by Hanunuo Mangyan weavers, Mindoro State University (MinSU) faculty, and Local Government Unit (LGU) officials from Mansalay and Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, held on May 31, 2024.

A highlight of the closing ceremony was the ceremonial marking of the Philippine Textiles Map at the DOST-PTRI Tela Gallery. During this symbolic act, the weavers affixed their traditional woven Ramit fabric onto the map of Oriental Mindoro.

Moreover, the event was graced by the presence of Hon. Renato U. Solidum, Jr., Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), who expressed his appreciation for the acceptance of the invitation by the weavers. He also conveyed a message of hope, emphasizing that this collaboration between the DOST and weavers marks only the beginning of a fruitful partnership.

The ceremony served not only as a celebration of their rich cultural heritage but also as a testament to the potential collaboration between government agencies and Indigenous communities in ensuring the preservation and promotion of our cultural legacy while fostering innovation and sustainable development.
