Natural Textile Fibers (NTFs) took center stage in a Fashion Show during the Diplomatic Reception in celebration of the 126th Philippine Independence Day in Oslo, Norway hosted by the Philippine Embassy in Norway on June 12, 2024. The event showcased sustainable fashion creations by designers Mayeth S. Codoy and Sabrina Saberhagen, featuring fabrics made from pineapple, bamboo, banana, and abaca fibers developed by the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI).

The collaboration between Codoy and Saberhagen highlighted the versatility and eco-friendliness of NTFs, responding to growing consumer demand in Norway for sustainable textiles. Norwegian consumers increasingly favor materials such as cotton, banana, abaca, and bamboo, aligning with Norway's commitment to the circular economy.

The partnership between DOST-PTRI and Norwegian stakeholders began with a technology exchange initiative. Philippine delegates visited Norway and underwent immersive training on the recently acquired Digital Jacquard Loom, developed by Tronrud Engineering Moss - Norwegian Company specializing in automation solutions. This initiative facilitated discussions at the Philippine Embassy in Norway, exploring the potential for NTF-based fabrics in the Schengen Region.

Furthermore, the event was graced and hosted by the Philippine Ambassador to Norway, H.E. Enrico T. Fos; Honorable Secretary Carlito Galvez, Presidential Adviser on Peace, Unity & Reconciliation; Norwegian Ambassador to the Philippines, H.E. Christian Leyster; and Mdm. Myla Antonette Fos. The event was also attended by the Filipino Community in Norway.
