DOST-PTRI Participate in UP MSS ACLE to Promote Textile Science and Cultural Appreciation
The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) took the lead in the Alternative Classroom Learning Experience (ACLE) hosted by the UP Materials Science Society (UP MSS) last April 29, 2025, giving students a deeper understanding of the science behind textiles.

DOST-PTRI presented "Textile 101," a discussion on how different fabrics are made, the materials used, and the role of textiles in everyday life and industry. The presentation helped students appreciate the scientific processes and innovations that support the textile sector.
Students also heard from the CHE Costume Museum (also known as the UP CHE Museum), located within the College of Home Economics at UP Diliman. Their talk explored the cultural and historical importance of traditional Filipino clothing and fabric artifacts, showing how material culture reflects the nation's identity and history.
After the presentations, participants had the chance to tour the exhibits by DOST-PTRI and CHE Costume Museum which allowed the students to connect science with cultural heritage, offering a fuller understanding of how materials science extends beyond laboratories into daily life and national tradition.
