The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) is exploring a groundbreaking collaboration with PETValue Philippines to upcycle plastic bottle waste into textile raw materials, potentially reshaping the country's approach to sustainability. This initiative comes as the global demand for sustainable solutions grows in the face of environmental concerns over plastic pollution. 

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) recently met with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at the Pasay City Jail Male Dormitory to establish a partnership for a textile-based livelihood project for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs). The initiative will focus on Tapestry Weaving and Woven Fabric Production. 

In a move to bridge education and industry, eight students enrolled in HE 211 (Teaching Techniques in Garments Technology) from Mariano Marcos State University's Graduate School visited the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) on October 18, 2024. The facility tour offered the students a unique, firsthand look at the latest advancements in the country’s textile industry, highlighting sustainable innovations and state-of-the-art processes. 

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), in collaboration with the office of former Congressman Jose Francisco “Kiko” Bantug Benitez, now the 15th Director General of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), recently conducted a Basic Handloom Weaving training program for 17 constituents from various barangays in Talisay City. The initiative aims to broaden the community's knowledge in textile arts and provide additional income opportunities through handloom weaving.
