In a bid to boost the Philippines' textile industry through sustainable regional development, the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) recently held a capacity-building training on natural dye extraction and application from October 14 to 18, 2024, at Central Philippines State University (CPSU) in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental. The training equipped local weavers with sustainable dyeing techniques using locally sourced plants.

In a significant step towards revitalizing the local textile industry, the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), in collaboration with DOST - Region V and the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) - Catanduanes, distributed 37 units of Portable Abaca Fiber Stripping Machines, known as "CARAEN," to farmer associations in the municipalities of Baras, Bato, Caramoran, and Pandan, Catanduanes.
