2017 signifies a special milestone for the Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) as it marks its half-a-century of initiatives of leading the textile research and development in the country. It also marks the institute’s stronger commitment and resolve to continue its mission of rejuvenating and revolutionizing the textile industry in the Philippines.

The Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) participated in the Mindanao Technology Transfer Day, which is the last Technology Transfer Day for 2016, last December 13 at the SMX Convention Center, SM City Lanang in Davao del Sur, jointly organized by the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region XI. Exhibited in the event are technologies from various DOST projects ready for transfer and commercialization.

Narda's Weaving lives on! Lucia Capuyan-Catanes, the late Narda Capuyan's daughter, carries on the Narda's tradition of fine ikat but this time, Lucia is working in cotton and natural dyes. She's also experimenting with cotton blended with abaca. The items in Pure Cotton are colored with natural and chemical dyes while Cotton-abaca has the look and feel of linen. Lucia also revives leno weaving (gauze weave) where two warp yarns are twisted around the weft yarns to provide a strong yet sheer fabric. Cotton and cotton-abaca blend were used to re-invent this old Narda's favorite. For clothes designers and makers, Leno weaves will be available as yardage and as apparel during the bazaar.

PTRI’s Showroom exudes global youthful exuberance - A Capsule Collection Exhibit in Collaboration with Three (3) Designers and Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF) Advocates
The Philippine Textile Research Institute celebrated the annual National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) with the Lab to FAB (Fabric Applications and Beyond) banner.
The celebration included the Special VIP Run of the PTRI Facility Tour capped by the Capsule Collection Exhibit of PTRI with Designers and Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF) Advocates: Ms. Jennifer Jean Avellanosa-Dee, Ms. Roan Jean Gregorio and Dr. Vincent Louie Tan.
