ILOILO CITY, ILOILO, REGION VI – The Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) brings its programs and initiatives to the Iloilo leg of the 2017 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) under the Support to Industry and MSMEs exhibit cluster. Specifically, the Institute opens its premier spinning and finishing facility – the Innovation Center for Yarns and Textiles (ICYT) through a virtual reality (VR) tour. In a nutshell, the ICYT seeks to bridge the gap between agricultural inputs and end-users of textile products, and encourage potential textile developments across the Country.

BUHI, CAMARINES SUR, REGION V – With a mandate of organizing community development programs to its power transmission beneficiaries or host communities, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) recently inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) for a six-month project of providing capability building trainings to the Buhi OTOP Key Players Association (BOKPA) Weavers.

Natural textiles and innovations highlighted in PTRI’s Lab to FAB exhibit at NSTW 2017

Cueva (Technology Transfer, Information and Promotions Staff)PASAY CITY — The annual National Science and Technology Week (NSTW)—with its aim to present the role and contribution of science and technology in nation-building and development—provided the backdrop for the Philippine Textile Research Institute’s exhibit that recently took place at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.
Entitled ‘Lab to FAB (Fabric Applications and Beyond)’, the exhibit featured a three-part experience: from textile inputs; then processes via PTRI’s facilities and machines; and to outputs in the form of fabrics, apparel, accessories, and other textile applications.

‘Innovations for Biodiversity Conservation and Smart Utilization’ Under the Biodiversity cluster organized by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD), PTRI put forth one of its missions: to develop textiles and textile products from natural materials, with smart utilization in mind.
