The Regional Science and Technology (S&T) Cluster Fair continued northward as the Northern Luzon S&T Fair was held in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur on September 1-3. Jointly organized by the DOST offices of Regions I, II, and Cordillera Administration Region (CAR), the fair and exhibits were held in the Vigan Convention Center. This year’s fair consisted of the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit (RICE); techno-based bazaar; techno fora; S&T quizzes and trivias; film showings and science magic shows, among others. Some of the events were covered and aired by ABS-CBN through its local TV channel partner.

Part of the mission of the Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) to support the Philippine textile, garment, and allied micro, small, and medium enterprises is the enhancement of the human resource capabilities in furtherance of particular projects of the Institute. Last year, a good number of the Institute’s Research and Development Division (RDD) and TSD personnel attended foreign trainings and workshops under the auspices of the DOST-PCIEERD funded Revitalization of the Philippine Textile Industry Through Science and Technology, the experiences and learnings from which, were shared with their coworkers in an echo seminar organized on September 4 and 7 in the PTRI’s Training Room.

To further the bonds and foster camaraderie, the PTRI family conducted this year’s teambuilding activity at Phillip’s Sanctuary in Antipolo City. The two-day event held on August 6-7 started with a dinner reception for the participants which included introductions of new employees (Alyzia Andrea Adorna, Viann Alarde, Genesis Albarico, Janaphrel Borja Jr., Ma. Armida del Mundo, Erickson Fajiculay, Von Losloso, Mae Roa, and Rachell Ann Uson); greetings to August birthday celebrants that included Donna Aguilar, Marnie Dones, Director Celia Elumba, Malou Forcadela, Procer Navarra, Carmencita Pando, and Rocelia Rafols; and a send-off to a retiring employee, Eliza G. Acunin, who served the Institute for 40 years. The first night was capped by an informal bonfire gathering.
