DOST-PTRI Represents the Research and Testing Sectors in the BPS/TC 56 Personal Safety – Protective Clothing and Equipment

The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) joined the Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) in a meeting with the Technical Committee (TC) members of the BPS/TC 56 – Personal Safety – Protective Protective Equipment (PPE).

The Committee is focused on the standardization of the performance of PPE designed to safeguard wearers against all known possible hazards. The meeting, hosted by the Department of Labor and Employment – Occupational Safety and Health Center (DOLE-OSHC) on 10 April 2025, aimed to harmonize the Philippine National Standards (PNS) with international standards to enable global compliance and recognition and to improve working conditions in the country through quality protective wear.

Institutions representing the six sectors (trade/industry, research, testing, academe, government, and consumer/user) discussed the Work Program for 2025 and the membership to the international committee ISO/TC 94. Among those who attended are the DOLE- Bureau of Working Conditions, DOLE-OSHC, 3M Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers, and Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika.
