As part of the Ginoo at Binibining Agham at Teknolohiya Coronation Night during the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) in Cagayan Valley, the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) held "KatHABI: Philippine Tropical Fabrics, Reimagined," a fashion innovation segment showcasing collections made from Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF) at SM City Tuguegarao, Cagayan, on September 25, 2024.
Beyond the runway, the 32-piece collection serves as a platform for innovation, empowering designers to infuse their creative visions with DOST-PTRI's textile advancements and encouraging stakeholders to invest in the limitless potential of Philippine Tropical Fabrics for wearable fashion.
The event featured "Bamboo Reverie" by Unica Hija of BAYO, which celebrates the strength and resilience of bamboo, both in the wild and in the fashion industry—a stylish, elegant homage to the beauty that surrounds us and BAYO's unwavering commitment to a greener, eco-conscious fabric of the future.
Also featured on the stage were collections from the 2023 Stitch-Off National Streetwear Competition, with entries from participating schools such as SoFA Design Institute, University of the Philippines - Diliman, Technological University of the Philippines - Manila, Iloilo Science and Technology University, Fashion Institute of the Philippines, and the De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde.
Additionally, the runway showcased the Aire collection by Creative Definitions, a men's wear line made from pineapple and cotton fibers, highlighting eco-friendly fashion with a focus on sustainability.
