DOST-PTRI Receives Unmodified Opinion During Successful FY 2024 COA Audit Exit Conference
The Commission on Audit (COA) held the FY 2024 Audit Exit Conference for the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) on April 2, 2025 at the TELA Gallery, DOST-PTRI. This event focused on discussing the results of the FY 2024 audit and reviewing the Audit Observation Memorandums (AOMs) from both the current and previous years. The financial audit of the Balance of Property, Plant, and Equipment (PPE), reconciliation of cash accounts, the implementation of infrastructure contracts, and the liquidation of completed Government Initiated and Assisted (GIA) projects were also discussed.

18 Catandunganons Complete Five-Day Handlooom Weaving Training
The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute through its FRONTIER Program - Regional Handloom Weaving Innovation Center together with HABI: The Philippine Textile Council and the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of the Local Government Unit of Panganiban conducted a five-day training in Basic Handloom Weaving from March 24-28, 2025, at St. James Parish Formation Center, Panganiban, Catanduanes.

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) and the Department of Agriculture - Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (DA-PhilFIDA) are joining forces to revitalize Philippine cotton and enhance its role in the country’s textile industry. Through this partnership, the agencies strive to increase local cotton production, support weaving communities, and reduce dependence on imported textile materials.
"We are here, we are open to engage. We have engineers and textile experts. We are on the same page with DA-PhilFIDA," said DOST-PTRI Director Dr. Julius L. Leano, Jr. His statement reinforces the Institute’s readiness to collaborate, leveraging its technical expertise and research capabilities to support the resurgence of Philippine cotton for textiles.

100-Year-Old GAMABA Awardee Magdalena Gamayo Weaves Philippine Cotton Again
In Pinili, Ilocos Norte, National Living Treasure Magdalena Gamayo weaves with Philippine cotton once more. At 100, her hands remain steady, crafting inabel, an Ilocano textile tradition. This return to Philippine cotton marks a blend of heritage and innovation.
The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) is leading this revival. On February 12, 2025, in celebration of National Arts Month, the Institute provided 9 kilograms of brown and 6 kilograms of white ring-spun Philippine cotton yarns to the GAMABA Weavers Association. This initiative revives Philippine cotton to boost local textiles, cut imports, and promote sustainability, providing weavers with quality, sustainable yarns.
