DFDCFI VISITS DOST-PTRI TO PREPARE FOR STELLAR FASHION GALA HIGHLIGHTING PHILIPPINE TROPICAL FABRICS

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) warmly welcomed Mangyan weavers, Mindoro State University staff, and officials from the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Mansalay and Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, for the first day of their learning visit on May 30, 2024.
The visit commenced with a guided tour of the Institute's facilities that enhanced the participants' understanding and appreciation of natural textile production. The tour included discussions on textile testing and demonstrations in spinning, weaving, natural dyeing, and fiber processing.

In preparation for the Stellar Fashion Gala in September focusing on Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTFs), Davao Fashion Design Council Foundation, Inc. (DFDCFI) President Emi-Alexander Englis and BD Dodjie Batu visited the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) on May 29, 2024.
This year's Stellar Fashion Gala, DFDCFI, in partnership with DOST-PTRI and Discovery Samal, will showcase a 100-piece luxe resort wear collection from eight designers using eco-friendly fabrics made from banana, pineapple, abaca, bandala, and bamboo, emphasizing sustainable fashion.

DOST-PTRI HOSTS OPERATIONAL PLANNING WORKSHOP FOR RYPIC COTABATO AND NTFIH SULTAN KUDARAT

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) successfully conducted the Operational Planning Workshop in preparation for the launch of the Regional Yarn Production and Innovation Center (RYPIC) and the Natural Textile Fiber Innovation Hub (NTFIH), held in Koronadal City, South Cotabato on May 28, 2024.
Set to be established at the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) and Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) respectively, RYPIC and NTFIH are designed to boost the textile industry in the region. These facilities will focus on enhancing yarn production and advancing natural textile fiber, aiming to boost local manufacturing capabilities in the area.

DOST-PTRI SPEARHEADS SOCCSKSARGEN TEXTILE STAKEHOLDERS CONFERENCE

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) in partnership with DOST XII - Department of Science and Technology - Region XII took a significant step in bolstering the textile industry in SOCCSKSARGEN with the convening of the Stakeholders Conference held in Koronadal City, South Cotabato on May 27, 2024. This is in preparation for the launch and operationalization of the Natural Textile Fiber Innovation Hub in Sultan Kudarat and the Regional Yarn Production and Innovation Center (RYPIC) in Cotabato - the first-ever facilities for yarn production in Mindanao.
The day-long program commenced with the Stakeholders' Conference, where representatives from various sectors, including government agencies, academic institutions, local government units, and local communities, gathered to discuss the establishment, operation, and sustainability of the NTFIH Sultan Kudarat and RYPIC Cotabato. Discussions focused on infrastructure development, technology transfer, capacity building, strategic partnership, and market opportunities.
