DOST-PTRI Hands Over Silk Handloom Machines to Empower Villanueva Women

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, Department of Tourism Region 10, and STEAG State Power Inc. (SPI), has initiated a livelihood program for the women of the Villanueva Kini General Services Multi-Purpose Cooperative (VKMPC). As part of SPI’s Livelihood and Enterprise Development Program, two sets of silk hand-loom weaving machines were formally turned over to VKMPC, aiming to establish a thriving silk industry in Villanueva.

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) conducted a virtual tour today as part of the Philippine National Police - Directorate for Research and Development’s (PNP-DRD) 20-day online Research and Development Course (RDC). The course, attended by 50 PNP personnel, is aimed at developing essential skills and knowledge in research and development to meet the DRD’s staffing requirements and introduce best practices from other PNP directorates.

The Department of Science and Technology —Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) continued its participation in DOST-MIMAROPA’s SalikLakbay Solutions Mapping and Immersion, held on October 29, 2024, in West Coast, Palawan. In collaboration with members of the Local Grassroots Innovation Technical Evaluation Committee (GITEC), the event gathered stakeholders representing the five sectors of the pentahelix collaboration model: academe, civil society organizations (CSOs), industry, media, and both local and national government.

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) participated in the 3rd International Conference on Materials Science and Engineering in the Philippines (ICMSEP), co-located with the 2024 International Conference on Microscopy and Microanalysis (ICMM), the 2024 Regional Conference on Mining, Metallurgical, and Materials Engineering (RCMMME), and the 2024 AUN/SEED-Net Regional Conference on Materials Engineering (RCME), held at Hotel Casiana in Tagaytay on October 29-30, 2024.
