The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) recently met with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at the Pasay City Jail Male Dormitory to establish a partnership for a textile-based livelihood project for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs). The initiative will focus on Tapestry Weaving and Woven Fabric Production. 

In a move to bridge education and industry, eight students enrolled in HE 211 (Teaching Techniques in Garments Technology) from Mariano Marcos State University's Graduate School visited the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) on October 18, 2024. The facility tour offered the students a unique, firsthand look at the latest advancements in the country’s textile industry, highlighting sustainable innovations and state-of-the-art processes. 

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), in collaboration with the office of former Congressman Jose Francisco “Kiko” Bantug Benitez, now the 15th Director General of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), recently conducted a Basic Handloom Weaving training program for 17 constituents from various barangays in Talisay City. The initiative aims to broaden the community's knowledge in textile arts and provide additional income opportunities through handloom weaving. 

The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), in collaboration with the Provincial Science and Technology Office-Cagayan and the Local Government Unit of Claveria, conducted a training workshop focused on Natural Dye Extraction and Synthetic Dyeing Techniques for Cellulosic Fibers. This training held at Claveria, Cagayan from October 15-17, 2024, aimed to enhance the skills of local farmers and handicraft weavers, enabling them to improve the quality and marketability of their abaca fiber products.
