DOST-PTRI WELCOMES REGION 12 STAKEHOLDERS FOR BENCHMARKING AND COLLABORATION

In a recent collaborative effort, textile stakeholders from Region 12, accompanied by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office XII, visited the DOST - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) on August 29, 2024, for a benchmarking activity.
The delegation was from the Mahintana Foundation, Inc. and the Tibud Sa Katibawasan Multi-Purpose Cooperative. The Mahintana Foundation, Inc., known for its community development initiatives, works on improving quality of life through various projects, including those in agriculture and livelihoods. Meanwhile, the Tibud Sa Katibawasan Multi-Purpose Cooperative focuses on enhancing economic opportunities through cooperative efforts in their localities.

PHILIPPINE TROPICAL FABRICS COLLECTIONS SHINE AT THE PAMANA AGHAM FASHION SHOW

As part of the Pamana Agham celebration, runway collections featuring Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF) from the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) were showcased in the event "Ang Pamanang Habi" last August 28, 2024 at Casa Blanca, Plaza San Luis Complex, Intramuros, Manila.
The show featured outfits from the Kawayarn and Haute Culture Collections by Filipino American fashion designer Anthony Cruz Legarda, who took inspiration from the Philippines' rich cultural heritage by using local weaves blended with fabrics made from cotton, pineapple leaf, silk, abaca, and bamboo.

DOST SECRETARY SOLIDUM HIGHLIGHTS TEXTILE INDUSTRY INITIATIVES OF DOST-PTRI AT PAMANA AGHAM OPENING

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. acknowledged the various projects and initiatives of the DOST - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) in the textile industry during the opening of the Pamana Agham: Siyensya sa Bawat Habi at Hibla on August 28, 2024 at Casa Manila in Intramuros, Manila.
In his speech, Sec. Solidum commended the Institute support for weaving communities, emphasizing that the weaving culture should be preserved and passed on. He noted that this tradition is a vibrant part of Filipino culture, reflecting the integration of both tradition and innovation, as well as the sustainable use of natural resources.

19 UN-WHO STAFF MEMBERS MASTER NATURAL DYEING THROUGH DOST-PTRI TRAINING PROGRAM

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), hosted a workshop on natural dye extraction and textile applications for nineteen (19) staff members from the United Nations-World Health Organization (UN-WHO) held at the United Nations Avenue, Manila, on August 16, 2024.
The said workshop is part of the WHO’s Healing Hearts initiative led by Dr. Susan Mercado, Director of Programme Management, and represented by Dr. Julienne O’Rourke, Technical Officer for Workplace Culture, which centered on promoting workforce well-being and engagement through interpersonal relationships towards attaining health for all.
